Mission

The objective of the Northern Ireland Olympic Wrestling Association is to develop and foster physical education generally, in particular, develop, foster and manage wrestling in Northern Ireland.

We maintain the highest standards for Olympic Wrestling and provide opportunities to anyone seeking to become involved in our sport.

Our responsibilities include: Promotion of Championships and other tournaments, grant permission to clubs for the holding of tournaments, promote & take part in international competitions and select and prepare wrestling teams to represent Northern Ireland.

Wrestling Skills Award
The NIOWA implements a Wrestling Skills Award Programme

The Wrestling Skills Award Programme is a grading system for Olympic Freestyle Wrestling. It offers the youth of Northern Ireland an introduction to wrestling with opportunities to attain certificates of achievement and Bronze, Silver and Gold badges.

The programme consists of four levels, each one presents fundamental technical skills along with related games and exercises. Participation in the Wrestling Skills Award Programme will enhance overall development of physical fitness and muscular strength. When all levels are completed, a wrestler will have a good understanding of Freestyle Wrestling Techniques.

This award is designed primarily for males and females aged 8 - 17yrs and is compatible with the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Scout Badge Award.
